Hair cut/Beach crabs and artist

I woke up on Wednesday (New Year's Eve day) with matted, dusty, dry, tangled hair. I don't know how some of the locals keep their hair looking nice. The water feels harder than ours at home, but that's not difficult to do. You get that squeaky clean feeling, but my hair feels died out. The road dust from walking hither and thither is atrocious, so that adds to the sticky dryness. I think the salt water from the ocean plays it's part too. Erroll says his feels coarse.

So, I started, then Cubsay finished cutting it all off with a pair of bandage scissors. It took a good hour 1/2. Feels good. Nice and cool. Cubsay was a trooper, very patient.

Cangrejo- crab.

I didn't notice the first time at the beach, all the little crabs, busily crabbing in and out of their holes all around me. Perhaps it was that I was spending equal time talking with someone and looking for the kids amidst the waves. Yesterday, tho, I sat down in the wet sand, hoping for a bit of a reprieve from the intense reflected heat, and looked around me. Every 2 or 3 feet there's a little hole. They're cute.

Artiste- artist
While minding my own business, Erike came up, squatted on his haunches and plunked down 8 pieces of pottery. They were all roughly the same size, about as big as a small melon. The glaze on them is distinctively different colours. OH! the frustration of not having more spanish was more in that 15 minutes than any other time this trip! I tried to ask him for his web site, and if he was interested in selling his pottery online. I could tell from his slightly pleading eyes that altho he nodded and smiled, he didn't understand my poor Spanish, nor my English. He didn't know Canada. I drew a map in the sand. I think he got it, especially after saying mucho frio (very cold). He did understand that I didn't have $ (this, he must hear a lot), but not, I think that my credit card didn't work in the abm, and that I had to save my cash for food for the kids.
Uncle Den, I really can't see how this fellow could have been taking advantage of me. I did keep an eye on our backpacks, which had my purse in it, in case this artist knew that I would be totally entranced with how he makes the marks on the pottery, and would engage me to the point that his cohort might whisk them away.

Sweet boy, he offered that I take one now, and he will meet me at the beach the next day. I didn't know if my promise to let the kids sleep in one more day would turn into another noon start, so I declined that, but said I'd go to the beach and buy one either on his 10 am or 2 pm walk down the beach. Turned out that while Lindsay rested her dogs outside the grocery store she sat next to Erike and talked with him. Having confirmed that I could use my credit card for the groceries, I bought a pot with a monkey on it. pretty cool.

Hey Rainne! (formerly known as River)

We are having an adventure, alright. Scissors is something the house doesn't have. I hope to not have to use any more on my hair, as there isn't much left of it.:D
The beach is HOT. I think if you plan to spend the day there we might check into that shade canopy we were told about. A nice couple from Virginia that I've been chatting to let us use theirs while they went for a walk today. It was a blessing. The kids spent too much time in the water and got burnt. The sand is very fine and gets into everything (won't be great for hackysacks, I think).
It's quite shallow very far out. The waves are big. The water warm and refreshing, but salty.

Don't bring water pills. We boil water every day.

The bank only takes visa cards, so I can't get cash at the Nosara bank. I will make due til the office can bring some american $ in, and they'll get me some from my card.

The store is like Mulhurst store. They are small, a fair walking distance, but have a good assortment of stuff..a little meat, a little dairy (pasteurized), dry goods.

We just saw little monkeys today! They were just a few steps from the house up in a tree.

Thanks for your vote of confidence, friend. I can't wait to see you too. The kids are anxious to see you too.

I'm so glad that we didn't have to cancel too.
