water

The water here gets boiled. We boil it because the health nurse told us to. And because the consequences have been told again and again by people visiting warm places. Montezuma's revenge, traveler's diarrhea, whatever the name one calls it by, it's not good. The mosquito nets are really not needed here, it's dry enough already at this time of year. There are enough foods that we can peel or cook. We even found pasteurized milk products at the store. I haven't used OFF yet (hate that stuff, makes my tongue go numb). But the water gets boiled every day.

It's morning now, and I think, will we have enough water to shower? I hear the gardener (must learn the spelling of Javier's brother's name) watering watering watering to create this oasis. Here, there is less that a mm rainfall in Dec. and only a little more in Jan. I know that the aquifer in Nosara is low, that's why each place has a cistern that pumps water out of the ground and stores it for use in the house and sometimes in case of emergency shortages. Ours is outside my room. It's up, on a 2 story tower and looks to be about 100-200 gal. Our little hot water tank is under the sink. At least I think that's what that is. It runs even when you flush the toilet, so maybe it's a combo of pressure tank and hot water. Either way, we don't have much room for long showers.

My mind keeps trying to run thru scenarios for water for the garden. Jessica and I spoke briefly about the possibility of getting a water tank, but the cost is prohibitive. So is the idea of catching water off of any building, as it's a fair distance from the school to the garden site. This is where our conversation about logistics stopped. I'm anxious. I want to wrap my head around the space and see what I can come up with.
